What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the function of the electric cooling fan. The fault is set when the fan control module reports an internal fault.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or play in the connections
- Open circuit or short to ground in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the electric cooling fan are intact; their position is in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Read the fault code, clear it and test drive to see whether it returns
- 3Check the connectors to the electric cooling fan and its control module for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Check the signal wire to the fan control module for breaks and shorts to ground
- 5If the fan does not show the fault at the moment, it may be intermittent; watch the fan during a test drive
Symptoms you may notice2
- The electric cooling fan runs all the time, even with the ignition off
- The electric cooling fan does not work
