What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the actual boost pressure with the calculated boost pressure. If the pressure is too high compared with the calculated pressure while the engine is running, fault code ECM-1517 is set. The fault may lie in the turbocharger, the turbo control valve or the vacuum system to them.
Possible causes
- Damaged turbo control motor
- Damaged turbocharger
- Incorrect software in the engine control module on 2005 to 2010 model year vehicles, which can store the code wrongly
- Leaking or clogged vacuum hoses to the turbocharger or the turbo control valve
- Damaged vacuum unit
- Damaged turbo control valve
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition, then inspect the turbocharger and turbo control valve hoses for correct fitting, leaks, damage and blockage
- 2Check that the vacuum unit moves freely and has not seized
- 3Check that the connectors and wires to the turbo control valve are tight and free of oxidation
- 4Start the engine, let it idle for a while, then check whether the fault code comes back
- 5On 2005 to 2010 model year vehicles, have a workshop check whether the engine control module needs updated software, since the code can then appear without a real cause
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the turbocharger and the turbo control valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect2
- Engine output is limited
- Engine torque is limited
