What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) sets fault code ECM-1540 if the turbo pressure is too high. If the fault has only been present at an earlier point, it is intermittent, meaning it is no longer active.
Possible causes
- Damaged turbo control motor
- Damaged turbocharger
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code, start the engine and let it run for a while. Then check whether the fault code comes back
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status of the fault code and check that the fault is not active when the test is finished
- 3Check the wires and the connector to the turbo control motor for damage and play
- 4If the fault is permanent, have a workshop check and, if needed, replace the turbo control motor or the turbocharger
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output is limited
