What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the output stages that drive the fuel injectors and sets the code when the injection quantity is too large. The last digit of the code shows the cylinder concerned, which here is cylinder 1.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or poor contact in the connections to the cylinder 1 injector
- Open circuit in the signal wire (+) to the injector
- Open circuit in the signal wire (-) to the injector
- Damaged cylinder 1 injector
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition and check the connector to the cylinder 1 injector for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Look for pinched, chafed or broken wires to the cylinder 1 injector, and use a multimeter to check that they have no open circuit
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the cylinder 1 injector and check that it responds
- 4Clear the fault code and test drive the car. If it comes back although the wiring is intact, have a workshop replace the injector
