What does this fault code mean?
The ECM receives no signal from the brake light switch or from the brake pedal sensor, which sends its signal over the CAN bus. The fault code is set when both signals are missing.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged brake light switch
- Damaged brake pedal sensor
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition and check the connectors at the brake pedal for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2With a multimeter, check that the ground wire is intact and not in contact with voltage
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data that the brake light switch signal changes when the brake pedal is pressed
- 4Brakes are safety-critical. If the pedal feels different, do not drive the car until a workshop has checked the braking system
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the brake pedal sensor
