What does this fault code mean?
The ECM sets fault code ECM-1600 when the boost pressure sensor signal sits within its normal range but still differs from the boost pressure the control module has calculated.
Possible causes
- Boost pressure sensor has come loose or is loose
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Open circuit in the signal ground wire
- Defective boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the boost pressure sensor is firmly fitted and has not come loose
- 2Switch off the ignition and check the connector to the boost pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no contact with voltage and that the signal ground wire is not broken
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the boost pressure sensor signal in live data and see whether it matches the calculated boost pressure
- 5If the fault remains after these checks the sensor may be defective. Have a workshop replace the boost pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator light comes on
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect2
- An estimated boost pressure is used instead of the actual one
- Boost pressure is limited if the signal is too high
