What does this fault code mean?
During its self-test the ECM checks that the gear selector is in park (automatic gearbox) or that the gear lever is in neutral (manual gearbox). If it is not, fault code ECM-1705 is set.
Possible causes
- The gear selector is not in park during the self-test (automatic gearbox)
- The gear lever is not in neutral during the self-test
What you can do
- 1Check that the gear selector is in P (automatic gearbox) or that the gear lever is in neutral, then clear the fault code
- 2Switch the ignition off and on again with the selector or lever in the correct position, and check whether the code comes back
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data how the gear position sensor reports as the selector is moved between positions
- 4If the code returns with the correct gear position, have a workshop check the gear position sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
