What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares the boost pressure sensor reading with its atmospheric pressure sensor reading at engine start, before the turbocharger has built up boost. The fault is intermittent, meaning it has occurred once or more but is not present right now.
Possible causes
- Faulty signal from the boost pressure sensor
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Defective boost pressure sensor
- Defective atmospheric pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition, then look for loose contact and oxidation at the boost sensor plug
- 2Because the fault is intermittent, clear the fault code and check whether it returns after a few engine starts
- 3If the code returns although the connectors are sound, have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor and the atmospheric pressure sensor in the control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- The engine is hard to start or cranks slowly
- The engine stalls or will not start
- The car lacks power, especially on take-off
- Throttle response hesitates, or the engine jerks or surges, especially on acceleration or at steady speed
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
