What does this fault code mean?
The ECM tracks the clutch pedal through two sensors: a position sensor that sends its signal over the car's CAN data link, and a position switch wired directly to the ECM. If the position sensor shows the pedal pressed while the switch is not active, fault code ECM-1797 is set.
Possible causes
- Position switch incorrectly fitted, adjusted or sticking
- Contact resistance, oxidation or poor contact in the connector
- Faulty position switch
What you can do
- 1Check that the clutch pedal moves freely up and down without sticking or obstruction
- 2Switch off the ignition and check the clutch position switch connector for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data how the clutch pedal position and the switch status change when the pedal is pressed and released
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop adjust or replace the position switch
Symptoms you may notice3
- Auto start does not work
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
- Warning symbol and a text message in the display
