Applies to the following models:

Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
When the ignition is switched on, the ECM checks that the EGR valve is in the correct position. The valve is controlled by pulse width and has a position sensor. If it is in the wrong position at switch-on, fault code ECM-180C is set.
Possible causes
- Defective EGR valve
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the EGR valve connector
- Open circuit or short circuit in the signal wire
- Supply wire shorted to voltage or ground
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition and check the EGR valve connector for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: with the ignition on, read the EGR valve position in live data and check that it stays steady
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal and supply wires to the EGR valve are not broken or shorted to ground or voltage
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the EGR valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
