What does this fault code mean?
The ECM receives the vehicle speed signal from the instrument cluster. If the module registers a fault in that signal, fault code ECM-1811 is set, and the fault may lie in the wiring or in the instrument cluster.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Defective instrument cluster
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition and check that the connectors on the signal wire are firmly seated and free of oxidation
- 2With a multimeter, check that the signal wire from the instrument cluster has no break
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data that the speed signal shows a value when the car is rolling
- 4If fault codes are stored in the instrument cluster's control module, trace those first. A faulty cluster may need replacing by a workshop
