What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the control signal wire to the glow plug relay. If the signal is too low, meaning the control signal does not reach the relay properly, fault code ECM-1816 is set.
Possible causes
- Control signal wire shorted to ground
- Open circuit in the control signal wire
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition and check the glow plug relay connectors and the control signal wire for play and oxidation
- 2With a multimeter, check that the control signal wire to the relay is not broken and not shorted to ground
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault code status and activate the glow plug relay to see whether it responds
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the glow plug relay
