What does this fault code mean?
The ECM drives the injector for cylinder 2 over a control signal wire. If the signal is faulty, or the control module has an internal fault, fault code ECM-1831 is set.
Possible causes
- Control signal wire shorted to voltage
- Control signal wire shorted to ground
- Open circuit in the control signal wire
- Defective cylinder 2 injector
- Defective engine control module
What you can do
- 1Switch off the ignition and check the connector to the cylinder 2 injector for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2With a multimeter, check that the control wire to cylinder 2 is not broken and not shorted to ground or voltage
- 3If the valve and wire are fine, the control module may be at fault. Clear the code and see whether it comes back
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the cylinder 2 injector or check the control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine does not start
