What does this fault code mean?
An internal fault has been registered in the ECM. If the fault is intermittent, it occurred at a single moment, for example at start-up, and may not be present now. If the code returns, the engine control module is probably defective and needs replacing. The engine does not start.
Possible causes
- Defective engine control module (ECM)
- Interference when the engine control module starts up, if the fault is intermittent
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code, then start the engine to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the battery terminals and cables are clean and firmly fitted so the voltage to the module is stable
- 3Check that the connectors at the engine control module are secure and free from corrosion
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop replace the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start
