What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the signal going to the swirl throttle motor, which operates the swirl flaps in the intake. If the signal is judged to be incorrect the code is set. The fault can be caused by an open circuit or short circuit in the wiring, or by a damaged swirl throttle motor. It may give a message in the information display.
Possible causes
- Open circuit or short to supply voltage in the signal wire
- Power supply wire short-circuited to battery voltage
- Open circuit in the ground wire
- Damaged swirl throttle motor
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the swirl throttle motor for play, oxidation and corrosion
- 3Check that the wiring to the swirl throttle motor is not chafed or pinched
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wires have no open circuit and are not short-circuited to voltage, and that the ground wire has no open circuit
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the swirl throttle motor and listen for a ticking sound when it starts
Symptoms you may notice1
