What does this fault code mean?
The signal to the swirl throttle motor is monitored by the ECM. The code is set when that signal is judged to be incorrect. The cause may be electrical, such as an open circuit or short circuit in the signal wire, or mechanical, if the swirl throttle motor, the linkage or the swirl damper is jammed or damaged.
Possible causes
- Open circuit or short to voltage or ground in the signal wire
- Damaged swirl throttle motor
- Swirl damper motor sticking
- Linkage or swirl damper sticking
- Damaged linkage between the swirl throttle motor and the swirl channel
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2With the ignition off, make sure the linkage and swirl channel are free of jamming and damage
- 3Check that the connector and wiring to the swirl throttle motor are free from oxidation, play and chafing
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the swirl throttle motor and listen for a ticking sound when it is activated
- 5Have a workshop check the swirl throttle motor if the fault remains
