What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal to the swirl throttle motor in the intake and sets the code when it judges the signal to be incorrect. The fault can come from electrical problems in the wiring or from mechanical problems, for example a swirl damper or linkage that has jammed in one position.
Possible causes
- Short circuit to voltage or ground in the signal wire
- Damaged wiring between the engine control module and the swirl throttle motor
- Damaged swirl throttle motor
- Swirl damper motor sticking
- Linkage or swirl damper sticking or damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2Make sure the swirl damper linkage and channel are free of jamming and damage
- 3Check the swirl damper motor for jamming and damage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the swirl damper motor and listen for a ticking sound
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the wiring and the motor
