What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the position of the swirl damper with a calculated value. If the position deviates in the negative direction, meaning lower than expected, the code is set. A jammed linkage, a jammed swirl damper motor or a damaged linkage can cause the fault. It appears as a message in the information display.
Possible causes
- Linkage or swirl damper sticking
- Damaged linkage between the swirl throttle motor and the swirl channel
- Swirl damper motor sticking
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code, start the engine and check whether it returns
- 2Make sure the swirl damper linkage and channel are free of jamming and damage
- 3Check the swirl damper motor for jamming and damage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the swirl damper motor and listen for a ticking sound when it starts
- 5Clear any jamming or damage to the linkage and have a workshop check whether the fault remains
