What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls the stop shutter valve, which regulates the vacuum to the stop shutter in the intake. The stop shutter closes the intake when the engine is switched off, for a smoother shutdown. The code is set when the ECM registers that the signal on the control wire to the valve is too low. The cause may be an open circuit or a short to ground in the wire, or a defective valve.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the control wire to the stop shutter valve
- Control wire short-circuited to ground
- Defective stop shutter valve
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2Check the fuse for the stop shutter valve, which has power even when the ignition is off
- 3Check the connector at the stop shutter valve for play and corrosion
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the control wire has no open circuit and is not short-circuited to ground (body)
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the stop shutter valve and listen for it working
- 6Have a workshop replace the stop shutter valve if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
