What does this fault code mean?
The swirl damper position is checked against a calculated value by the ECM. If the swirl damper is stuck and cannot be moved to the correct position, the code is set. This can be caused by a sticking linkage or damper, or by a sticking or damaged swirl damper motor. The fault gives a message in the information display.
Possible causes
- Linkage or swirl damper sticking
- The swirl damper has jammed in the channel
- Damaged linkage between the swirl throttle motor and the swirl channel
- Swirl damper motor sticking
- Damaged swirl throttle motor
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2With the ignition off, check that the swirl channel is free from dirt and soot so the damper can move
- 3Check that the linkage between the swirl damper motor and the swirl channel is not damaged or catching
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the swirl damper motor and listen for a ticking sound
- 5Have a workshop replace the swirl damper motor or linkage if the fault remains
