What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module's internal monitoring functions have registered an internal fault, so the code is set in the module itself. The fault can limit engine performance and can make the check engine light come on or behave abnormally. If the module has old software, updating it may be a remedy, which is done by a workshop.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2Have a workshop check that the engine control module has the latest software and reload it if needed
- 3If the engine feels limited, drive carefully and have a workshop check the car
- 4If the fault returns after these checks, have a workshop replace the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- Warning symbol or text message in the display
- The engine runs worse or lacks power
- The malfunction indicator lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- Engine torque may be limited
- Engine speed (RPM) may be limited
