What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls the swirl flap control valve, which governs the swirl in the intake pipe, and checks that the signals between them match. If the signals are incorrect the code is set. The cause may be an open circuit or a short circuit in the signal wire.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors at the swirl flap control valve and at the engine control module for play, oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no open circuit and is not short-circuited to ground or supply voltage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the swirl flap control valve and listen for it working
- 5Have a workshop replace the control valve or check the signals if the fault remains
