What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the circuit for injector 1, the injector for cylinder 1. If the signal to the injector is missing, the code is set. The fault can come from an open circuit in the signal wire or the power supply, poor contact in the connections, or a damaged injector.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the power supply to the injector
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the injector for play, oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire and the power supply to the injector have no open circuit
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate injector 1 and listen for it working
- 5Have a workshop replace the injector if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- Not all cylinders are firing
