What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares how fast the engine temperature rises during warm-up with the expected rise, which is calculated from load and start temperature among other things. If the measured rise deviates too much, the code is set. The cause may be a damaged thermostat or a damaged coolant temperature sensor, and a fault in the outside air temperature sensor can also trigger it.

- Damaged thermostat
- Damaged engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
- Fault in the outside air temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2If there are fault codes stored in the outside air temperature sensor, fix those first and then clear this code
- 3Check that the coolant level is correct and the antifreeze is adequate, since a frozen sensor can cause the fault
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the engine temperature in live data with how quickly it rises during warm-up
- 5Have a workshop replace the thermostat if it does not open as it should
