What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) adjusts the fuel mixture using the bank 1 oxygen sensor. When the adjustment sits at its lower limit under higher load and can no longer keep up, the code is set. The fault can have several causes, including high fuel pressure, leaking injectors, or oil that is contaminated or too high in level.

    Possible causes

    • High fuel pressure
    • Leaking injectors
    • Damaged mass air flow (MAF) sensor
    • Contaminated engine oil
    • Oil level too high
    • Damaged heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) on bank 1

    What you can do

    1. 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
    2. 2Check the oil level against the dipstick markings, and whether the oil looks contaminated or diluted
    3. 3Check the intake and exhaust systems for leaks
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the lambda integrator in live data at idle and check whether it stays steady
    5. 5Have a workshop check the fuel pressure and the mass air flow sensor if the fault remains

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • No noticeable symptoms for the driver

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
