What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the response of the oxygen sensor with changes in the oxygen content of the exhaust gases. If the front sensor reacts too slowly, the code is set. The cause may be a damaged oxygen sensor or an air leak in the exhaust system.

- Damaged front oxygen sensor
- Air leak in the exhaust system
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2Check the exhaust system for air leaks, for example at joints and flanges
- 3Check that the connector at the front oxygen sensor is clean and secure; do not use penetrating spray or grease on it
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oxygen sensor signal in live data with the engine running and see that it switches
- 5Have a workshop replace the front oxygen sensor if the fault remains
