What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has registered that the actual throttle angle is smaller than the requested angle. The cause may be poor contact, a damaged throttle unit or a damaged engine control module. The engine may then receive less throttle opening than the driver asks for.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose connections
- Damaged throttle unit
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2Check that the vibration damper on the throttle unit is in place and correctly fitted
- 3Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for play and corrosion
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, check that the throttle angle in live data changes when the accelerator pedal is pressed
- 5Have a workshop replace the throttle unit if the fault remains after these checks
Symptoms you may notice4
- The check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- The engine does not start
- Poor performance or lack of power
- The engine hesitates or jerks
