Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the throttle unit and has registered faulty signals from the throttle motor, meaning from the throttle position. The fault can come from an open circuit or a short circuit in the signal wire, or from a damaged throttle unit.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground or supply voltage
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the fault code and check whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors at the throttle unit for play, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the throttle unit has no open circuit and is not short-circuited to ground or supply voltage
- 4If the throttle feels sluggish, drive carefully and have a workshop check the car
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop replace the throttle unit
