What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the pedal sensor's signal and stores the code when the value is too low, that is outside its permitted range. If the car shows none of the symptoms at the moment, the fault may be intermittent.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact; their locations are given in the owner's manual
- 2Test the relevant functions of the car on a test drive to see whether the symptoms return
- 3Check the connectors at the accelerator pedal and where the cable joins the control module for oxidation and contact resistance
- 4Have a diagnostic tool? Read the accelerator pedal value in live data while you press the pedal slowly from one end stop to the other, and check that the value changes smoothly
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable from the accelerator pedal position sensor is not in contact with ground
- 6If the connectors and cable are sound but the fault remains, have a workshop replace the accelerator pedal position sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
- The car feels weak and lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
