What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module checks both the PWM signal and the sensor's analogue signal. The code is stored when the PWM signal has too low a frequency or stays low for too short a part of each cycle, and the cause can be poor contact, a short-circuited signal cable or a damaged sensor.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
    • Signal cable short-circuited to voltage or ground
    • Open circuit in the signal ground cable
    • Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are given in the owner's manual or on the inside of the fuse box cover
    2. 2Test the relevant functions during a test drive to see whether the symptoms are present now
    3. 3Check the connectors at the accelerator pedal for oxidation and contact resistance, and look for chafing or pinching in the pedal wiring
    4. 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal ground wire to the pedal is not broken
    5. 5Have a diagnostic tool? Read the pedal signal in live data while you press and release the pedal, and check whether it drops too low or disappears
    6. 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the pedal sensor and the wiring

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Text message and warning symbol in the display
    • The car performs poorly and lacks power

    What the fault can affect1

    • Engine torque may be limited

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
