What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named the intake air position sensor, it concerns the signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor. The control module stores the code when the PWM signal has too high a frequency or stays high for too long a part of each cycle, and the cause can be contact resistance, a short circuit to voltage or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Short circuit to voltage in the signal cable
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are given in the owner's manual or on the inside of the fuse box cover
- 2During a test drive or when using the relevant functions, check whether the symptoms are present now
- 3Check the connectors at the accelerator pedal position sensor for oxidation and contact resistance
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable from the pedal sensor is not short-circuited to voltage
- 5Have a diagnostic tool? Read the pedal value in live data with the ignition on and the pedal at rest, and see whether it reads high
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the pedal position sensor and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
- The engine performs worse than usual
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
