What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has had to correct the fuel mixture for the bank 1 oxygen sensor so much that the long-term correction has nearly reached its maximum at lower part load. The mixture is therefore far from the target, and the cause can be a leak in the intake or exhaust, low fuel pressure or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Air leakage in the intake system
- Air leakage in the exhaust system
- Low fuel pressure
- Damaged heated oxygen sensor on bank 1
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Go over the intake hoses and connections for cracks, loose clamps and leaking spots
- 3Check the exhaust system for leaks at joints and seams
- 4Check that the hose to the brake booster and the hoses to the EVAP valve are intact
- 5Have a diagnostic tool? Follow the long-term fuel trim for bank 1 in live data at idle with the engine warm, and see whether it sits close to its extreme position
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the fuel pressure and check the oxygen sensor on bank 1
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
