ECM-2130
VOLVO
ECM-2130 - Fuel temperature sensor. Signal too low
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
5 modelsS40 (2004–2013), S60 (2001–2009), S80 (1999–2006), V50 (2004–2013), V70 (2000–2008)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named for a signal that is too low, it is also stored when the signal is too high. The engine control module reads the fuel temperature sensor's value, which is built into the fuel pressure sensor, and the fault can lie in the sensor, the wiring or the connectors.
Possible causes
- Signal cable shorted to earth
- Defective or damaged fuel temperature sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Signal cable shorted to supply voltage
- Open circuit in the signal cable or signal ground cable
What you can do
- 1Clear the code, start the engine, warm it up and see whether the code returns
- 2Have a diagnostic tool? Read the fuel temperature in live data with the engine warm, and check that the value is plausible and does not jump
- 3Check the connector on the fuel pressure sensor for oxidation and play, since the fuel temperature sensor sits in it
- 4Inspect the wiring to the fuel pressure sensor for chafing and breaks
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable is not shorted to earth or voltage
- 6If the connectors and wiring are sound but the fault remains, have a workshop replace the fuel pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control module uses a predefined fixed value for fuel temperature instead of the sensor signal
