ECM-213D - Long-term fuel trim, bank 2. Signal too low
System

Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (1999–2006), XC90 (2003–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The code is stored when the long-term fuel trim for bank 2 has nearly reached its limit at lower part load, even though the code is named for a signal that is too low. The mixture then deviates strongly from the target, and the cause can be a leak, fuel pressure, injectors, the mass air flow sensor, the engine oil or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Air leakage on the intake side
- High fuel pressure
- Leaking fuel injectors
- Damaged mass air flow sensor
- Contaminated engine oil or oil level too high
- Damaged heated oxygen sensor on bank 2
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the intake system for air leakage, including the hose to the brake booster
- 3Look for fuel leaks at the fuel lines and note whether there is a smell of fuel
- 4Check that the oil level is between the min and max marks on the dipstick, and that the oil is not contaminated
- 5Have a diagnostic tool? Read the fuel trim for bank 2 in live data at idle, and see whether it is heading towards its upper limit
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the fuel pressure and check the injectors
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
