What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has had to correct the fuel mixture for the bank 1 oxygen sensor so much that the long-term correction has nearly reached its maximum at idle. This points to a clearly deviating mixture, which can come from an air leak in the intake or exhaust, or from a damaged oxygen sensor.
Possible causes
- Intake air leakage
- Air leakage in the exhaust system
- Damaged heated oxygen sensor on bank 1
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the intake system for leaks, including the hose to the brake booster and the EVAP valve hoses
- 3Check the exhaust system for leaks at joints and seams
- 4Have a diagnostic tool? Read the mass air flow correction factor with the engine at idle, and check that the value looks plausible and does not deviate sharply
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the bank 1 oxygen sensor and measure the fuel pressure
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
