What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the resistance of the heater circuit in the rear oxygen sensor on bank 1. The code is stored if that resistance is too high for a certain time, and the cause is either poor contact in the connections or a damaged rear sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged rear oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector on the rear oxygen sensor for oxidation, play and contact resistance
- 3Do not use rust solvent spray or grease in the oxygen sensor connector
- 4If the connector is free of oxidation but the fault remains, have a workshop replace the rear oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) comes on
