VOLVO
ECM-2212 - Glow warning lamp. Signal too low. Intermittent fault
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS40 (1996–2004), V40 (1996–2004)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and it concerns the signal wire to the glow indicator, the lamp that shows the glow phase is active. The engine control module sets the code when it detects a fault in the wire, such as a short to voltage, a short to ground or an open circuit. The lamp may then come on or stay off.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1If the glow indicator lights while the engine runs, the signal wire may be shorted to ground, so check this first
- 2Inspect the wire to the glow indicator for breaks and chafing
- 3Check the connectors in the wire for play and corrosion
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire is not shorted to voltage or ground
- 5If the wire is sound but the fault returns, have a workshop check it with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- The glow indicator comes on
- The glow indicator does not come on
