ECM-2222
VOLVO
ECM-2222 - EGR converter. Signal too low. Intermittent fault
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS40 (1996–2004), V40 (1996–2004)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and it concerns the signal wire to the EGR valve, which controls the return of exhaust gases. The engine control module sets the code when it finds a fault in the wire, such as a short to ground, an open circuit or a short to voltage. The EGR control is then switched off.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Defective EGR valve
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Inspect the wire to the EGR valve for breaks, chafing and shorts to ground or voltage
- 2Check the EGR valve connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the EGR valve is not broken and not shorted
- 4Have a diagnostic tool? Activate the EGR valve and check that it moves
- 5If the wire and connector are sound but the fault remains, have a workshop replace the EGR valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp comes on
What the fault can affect1
- EGR control is switched off
