VOLVO
ECM-2223 - Signal too low. Intermittent fault
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS40 (1996–2004), V40 (1996–2004)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, and it concerns the signal wire from the A/C relay to the engine control module. The code is set when the wire is shorted to voltage, broken or shorted to ground, or if the relay is defective. The A/C system is then switched off.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Defective A/C relay
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1Inspect the wire from the A/C relay for breaks, chafing and shorts to ground
- 2Check that the fuse for the A/C circuit is intact
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire is not shorted to voltage or ground and is not broken
- 4Have a diagnostic tool? Activate the A/C system and listen for the relay to click in
- 5If the wire is sound but the fault returns, have a workshop check the A/C relay
Symptoms you may notice1
- The A/C does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The air conditioning (A/C) system is switched off
