What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls the heating of the rear oxygen sensor on bank 1. The code is set when the signal is too low while heating is switched off. The signal wire may be shorted to ground, or the sensor may be damaged. Lambda control is switched off.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Damaged oxygen sensor
- Damaged rear oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: once the diagnostic is complete, read the fault status and see whether the fault is permanent or intermittent
- 2Look for chafing on the signal wire where it may have touched the body or a metal part
- 3With the connector at the sensor unplugged, use a multimeter to confirm the signal wire has no connection to ground
- 4If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop decide whether the sensor should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
What the fault can affect1
- Lambda control is switched off
