What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named after the turbocharger control valve, it concerns the amount of air measured by the mass airflow sensor. The engine control module (ECM) sets the code when that airflow is unreasonably high, which usually means air is leaking into the intake after the sensor.
Possible causes
- Leaking air around the intake pipe, its hoses or their connections
What you can do
- 1Read the code, note it, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the hoses and clamps between the turbocharger and the intake pipe for cracks or loose clamps
- 3Also check the hoses connected to the turbocharger control valve and make sure they are fitted securely
- 4Listen for a hissing sound from the intake with the engine idling; the sound usually shows where the air is leaking
- 5If the fault remains after the leak has been fixed, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the intake system
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction Indicator Light (Check engine light) comes on or behaves abnormally
- The engine feels weaker and lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output is limited
