What does this fault code mean?
A sensor on the fuel filter lets the engine control module (ECM) check for water in the fuel. The code is set when water is present in the filter. Water in the fuel can make the idle uneven and reduce performance.
Possible causes
- Water in the fuel, for example from condensation in the tank or contaminated fuel when refuelling
What you can do
- 1Drain the water from the fuel filter. If you are not sure how, have a workshop do it
- 2Check whether the fuel filter is clogged; a clogged filter should be replaced
- 3Clear the code and road test to see whether it returns once the water is gone
- 4If the fault remains after draining, have a workshop check the fuel system and the water sensor in the filter
Symptoms you may notice2
- Uneven idle
- The engine feels weaker and lacks power
