What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the injector control wire for cylinder 1. The code is set when the signal reads high, reads low or is absent. The fault can be intermittent and sometimes comes from poor contact in the injector connector.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the injector connector
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the injector for cylinder 1 and listen for a click from the injector when it is activated
- 2Check that the connector to the cylinder 1 injector is secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the injector has no break and is not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 4Clear the code and road test to see whether it returns once the connector has been checked
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the injector and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice3
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
- Engine not firing on all cylinders
- Engine cranks normally yet refuses to start
What the fault can affect1
- Lambda control is disabled
