ECM-2304
VOLVO
ECM-2304 - Ignition coil 2. Signal too high
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) keeps watch over the ignition circuitry. The code is set when the signal from ignition coil 2, which feeds cylinders 2 and 3, reads too high. The most common cause is the primary wire touching a supply voltage, but a damaged coil can also trigger the fault.
Possible causes
- Primary wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged ignition coil
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector to ignition coil 2 is secure and free from corrosion
- 3Look for a pinched or chafed cable on the primary wire where it may have touched a live conductor
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data whether the ignition coil 2 signal reads too high while the engine runs
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop decide whether the coil should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
