What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal to the injector for cylinder 1 and checks that it works. A signal that reads high, reads low or is faulty sets the code. The fault can be in the injector or in the wiring between the injector and the control module.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Signal wires short-circuited to each other
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to the cylinder 1 injector is secure and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the injector has no break and is not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the cylinder 1 injector and listen for a click from the injector
- 4Check that the wiring in the engine bay is intact and not chafed, especially where it connects to the injector
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the injector and its wiring
