What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) drives injector 1 through its own power stage, and the voltage levels in that circuit are above battery voltage. The code is set when the module detects a fault on the wiring to the injector while the engine runs. The cause may be in the battery and power supply, but also in the injector or the control module.
Possible causes
- Loose or oxidised battery connections
- Problem with the power feed to the engine control module (ECM)
- Defective charging system
- Open circuit or short-circuit in the signal or ground wire to the injector
- Defective injector
- Defective engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check the battery terminals: they should be tight, clean and free from oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to see whether the battery and charging keep their voltage when the engine is started and when it runs
- 3Check that the connectors to the engine control module are secure and have no play or oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the voltage in live data while the engine runs and see whether it stays steady
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop decide whether the injector or the engine control module is defective
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine fails to start
- Engine not firing on all cylinders
