What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has its own power stage for injector 3, and the voltage in that circuit sits above battery voltage. The code is set when the module finds a fault on the wiring to the injector while the engine runs. The cause is often in the supply, for example poor battery connections.
Possible causes
- Loose or oxidised battery connections
- Problem with the power feed to the engine control module (ECM)
- Defective charging system
- Open or short-circuit in the signal or ground wire to the injector
- Defective injector
- Defective engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check the battery terminals and earth connections: they should be tight and free from oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to see whether the battery holds its voltage while the engine is cranked
- 3Check the connector to the engine control module for fixing, play and oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the feed voltage at the engine control module in live data during cranking and see whether it dips
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the injector and the supply to the control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine fails to start
- Engine not firing on all cylinders
