What does this fault code mean?
This code applies to injector 5. The engine control module uses its own power stage for each injector, and the fault may lie in the wiring to the injector, in the battery connections or in the control module. The code is set when the module detects the fault while the engine runs.
Possible causes
- Defective charging system
- Open circuit in the signal or ground wire
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Defective injector
- Defective engine control module (ECM)
- Loose or oxidised battery connections
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Look at the battery connections and the earth point; they should be tight and not corroded
- 3Check that the connector to injector 5 is secure and free from oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check the wire to injector 5 for a break or a short to ground
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the injector and the connections to the control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine fails to start
- Engine not firing on all cylinders
