What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal to the injector for cylinder 4. When it is missing, the code is set. The cause may be a break in the signal wire, in the wiring to the valve or a faulty injector.
Possible causes
- Signal wire is broken
- Break in the wiring to the injector
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Read the code and clear it, then road test to see whether it comes back
- 2Trace the cable from injector 4 to the engine control module and check that it is intact
- 3Check the connector at the valve: it should be secure and clean
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate injector 4 and see whether it clicks when activated
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the valve
Symptoms you may notice4
- Engine fails to start
- Message in the display
- Running feels weak and jerky
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
What the fault can affect1
- No fuel is sprayed into cylinder 4
