What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls the heating element in the front oxygen sensor on bank 1. If that heater control has not worked for a certain time, the code is set. The fault is usually caused by poor contact or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Damaged front oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the wiring and connectors to the front oxygen sensor are secure and free from oxidation
- 3If possible, measure from the back of the connectors with a multimeter so the connector is not damaged and does not get play later
- 4Do not use rust solvent spray or grease on the oxygen sensor connector
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop decide whether a new front oxygen sensor is needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
